ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A sulfonanilide compound having the formula (I): Image (I) wherein X1 is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a methyl group or trifluoromethyl group, X2 is a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom, R1 is a (C1-C4) alkyl group or a halo(C1-C4) alkyl group, R2 is a hydrogen atom, a (C1-C4) alkyl group, a trifluoromethyl group or a nitro group, R3 is a hydrogen atom, -SO2R1 group (R1 is the same as defined above), a (C2-C4) acyl group, a (C2-C4) acylmethyl group, a (C1-C4) alkyl group, a (C1-C4) alkoxy (C1-C4) alkyl group or a (C3-C4) alkenyl group, R4 is a hydro- gen atom or a halogen atom, and n is an integer of 0 to 2; or a salt thereof, which is useful as a herbicide.
