PRECIS DE LA DIVULGATION L'invention se rapporte à un procédé d'élimination des oxydes de soufre, et notamment du dioxyde de soufre, contenus dans des gaz tels que les fumées industrielles, caractérisé en ce que le gaz est mis en contact avec un absorbant solide renfermant de l'oxyde de magnésium dans des conditions où les oxydes de soufre sont fixés principalement sous forme de sulfate de magnésium, puis l'absorbant solide usagé est mis en contact avec un courant gazeux renfermant du soufre élémentaire dans des conditions où l'oxyde de magnésium est régénéré en produisant un effluent gazeux renfermant du dioxyde de soufre.
