A B S T R A C T Known Man-Piloted Hang Gliders and Kites use for their super- structure, three hollow tubings that are drilled and bolted in front to a nose plate and are referred to as the wing spars and the main keel spar. Another hollow tubing referred to as the crossbar is drilled and bolted to the main keel spar at a right angle and positioned at the center of gravity. The crossbar is also drilled and bolted to the wing spars to keep them apart. Because of this construction it is impossible to incorporate an angle of dihedral in this design, which would give it some lateral stabil- ity. The sail used in known designs have no provisions for releasing excessive air pressure from below the sail. In this invention the main structural tubings are of sandwich type construction and have another light tubing about half the size of the outer one within them. All air spaces are filled out with a noncorrosive stabil- izing foam, type RH 197. The cross tubing is removed in this invention and is replaced by two compression struts which take the function of the cross tubing in a more desirable way. The compression struts are attached to the main keel spar end-fitting and wing spar fittings respectively. A flanged steel clamp centered at the center of gravity location on the main keel spar accepts the upper ends of the control-frame, which carries the pilots weight and provides attachment for the lower rigging cables. The main keel spar in this invention does not have to be drilled at the center of gravity location and the load is spread over the width of the clamp. The sail in this invention has one vent-hole on each side of the keel spar, located at the center of gravity location and manually-operated flaps can release excessive air pressure fron below the sail in flight if so desired. The amount of released air pressure is adjustable and is limited only by the vent-hole openings. These vents also provide a stabilizing effect like the vent-hole does in a parachute.
