A superconducting current limiting device (30) comprising: an interconnected high magnetic permeability structure including a central core (50) interconnected to at least a first and second arm (31, 32) branching off therefrom; a superconductive coil (33, 34) surrounding the central core for biasing the central core; a first alternating current coil (36, 37) surrounding the first arm and interconnected to an alternating current source; a second alternating current coil (38, 39) surrounding a second arm and interconnected to an alternating current load; the first and second alternating current coils being magnetically coupled to the central core wherein the device operates so as to limit the current passing through the device upon the occurrence of a fault condition in the load.

L'invention concerne un dispositif de limitation de courant supraconducteur (30) qui comprend: une structure à haute perméabilité magnétique interconnectée comportant un noyau central (50) interconnecté à au moins un premier et un deuxième bras (31, 32) s'étendant depuis celui-ci; une bobine supraconductrice (33, 34) entourant le noyau central qui permet de polariser ce dernier; une première bobine à courant alternatif (36, 37) entourant le premier bras et étant interconnectée à une source de courant alternatif; une deuxième bobine à courant alternatif (38, 39) entourant le deuxième bras et étant interconnectée à une charge de courant alternatif, la première et la deuxième bobine à courant alternatif étant raccordées magnétiquement au noyau central. Le fonction dudit dispositif est de limiter le courant qui le traverse lors de la survenance d'un état de défaut dans la charge.
