The present invention is directed to processes and apparatus in which supercritical fluids are used as viscosity reduction diluents for liquid fuels or waste materials which are then spray atomized into a combustion chamber. The addition of supercritical fluid to the liquid fuel and/or waste material allows viscous petroleum fractions and other liquids such as viscous waste materials that are too viscous to be atomized (or to be atomized well) to now be atomized by this invention by achieving viscosity reduction and allowing the fuel to produce a combustible spray and improved combustion efficiency. Moreover, the present invention also allows liquid fuels that have suitable viscosities to be better utilized as a fuel by achieving further viscosity reduction that improves atomization still further by reducing droplet size which enhances evaporation of the fuel from the droplets.
a présente invention a trait à des procédés et des appareils dans lesquels on utilise des fluides supercritiques comme diluants réducteurs de viscosité pour des combustibles ou des rebuts liquides qui sont ensuite pulvérisés dans une chambre de combustion. L'addition d'un fluide supercritique au combustible et/ou rebut liquide permet aux fractions de pétrole visqueux et autres liquides comme les rebuts visqueux qui sont trop épais pour être pulvérisés (ou être bien pulvérisés) de l'être dorénavant grâce à la présente invention qui assure la réduction de la viscosité et permet de faire du combustible un produit pulvérisé inflammable et d'améliorer l'efficacité de la combustion. La présente invention permet également aux combustibles liquides qui ont une viscosité appropriée d'être mieux utilisés comme combustibles grâce à une viscosité encore plus réduite qui facilite la pulvérisation par une diminution de la taille des gouttelettes favorisant l'évaporation du combustible.
