In a retail checkout work station such as those found in grocery or discount department stores a unique moveable chair having a fixed base comprises the invention. The seat of the chair is adapted to move to a plurality of positions to enable the checkout person to carry out such operations such as cash, scanning and bagging, while at the same time, when not in use, the chair is capable of being stored under a portion of the checkout station to permit a checkout person to move about freely throughout the floor space.
