ED-253 A SUPERVISORY UNIT WITH DEGRADED MODE CAPABILITY ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A system for monitoring events and which is capable of automatically supervising itself respon- sive to trouble in system hardware and software comprising: a plurality of input circuits for detecting events and a plurality of output circuits for indicating the presence of the events, the input circuits comprising loop controllers and input modules; a computer means including means for storing internal programming and a microcon- troller, the microcontroller connected to the input circuits for two-way communication with the input circuits and further connected to the output circuits; a front panel and means at the front panel for further indicating the events; a shared display disposed on the front panel; a trouble buzzer connected to the microcontroller; and means within the computer means for supervising the system responsive to trouble in system hardware and soft- ware, wherein the means for supervising the system includes means for executing a degraded mode routine when a fatal error is detected within the system.
