A surgical theater system (10) includes a boom (22) rotating about a hub (16) and coupled to a counterbalance arm assembly (30) having a counterbalance arm (40) and a monitor mount assembly (50) configured to permit a monitor (14) or other device (12) to be positioned horizontally and vertically within a surgical suite and maintain the vertical elevation selected. Counterbalance arm (30) includes a proximal hub (38), a first parallel link (42), a second parallel link, a spring link, a spring and a distal hub (48). First (54), second and third proximal pivot axes extend through proximal hub (38) with third pivot axis being movable along a radial line forming an angle with a line intersecting first (54) and second proximal pivot axes.
