SUPPORT CONSTRUCTION FOR A PIVOTAL JOINT ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Damage caused to a central buffer coupling received in a mounting beam of a vehicle is minimized by securing the coupling to a carrier which is itself affixed to the mounting beam by means of an energy absorbing assembly. Under excess impact force on the coupling the energy absorbing assembly deforms and the carrier is pushed back along a predetermined path in which it is guided. The energy absorbing assembly is illustrated as a bolt, sleeve and a disc which becomes deformed or sheared off.
