A core for a cold-shrink tubing assembly is produced from a ribbon (30) helicaly wound on itself to form a cylindrical tube. The edges (32, 34) of the ribbon (30) are formed to interlock with each other and are contoured to facilitate ultrasonic welding of the edges (32, 34).
