Abstract of the Disclosure A horizontally movable sampling probe, for insertion into and retraction from a blast furnace, is supported in an aperture in the furnace wall. The support mechanism for the probe includes a fluid cooled guide block attached to e furnace shell and having a support portion extending toward the furnace interior at least part way through the refractory furnace wall lining.
