ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A coupler for a magnetic head includes a flat circumferential surface around the aperture in which the heal is mounted and a circumferential orifice surface outside of and adjacent to the flat surface. The orifice surface forms a hydro- dynamic orifice for control of flow of air over the flat circum- ferential surface to couple the magnetic medium to the magnetic head by the Bernoulli effect created by movement of air between the medium and the flat circumferential surface. The coupler protrudes through a flat Bernoulli plate against which the magnetic disk is rotated.
