In particular, the application relates to apparatus comprising at least one microchannel (310), a porous thermally conductive support in the microchannel and in contact with a heat transfer wall (400), a catalyst or a sorption medium supported by the porous support and a heat source and/or heat sink (360). The application also relates to processes for conducting chemical reactions in the microchannel reactor.
