RCA 75,433 SUPPORT STRUCTURE Abstract A support panel comprises an aluminum honeycomb core and outer face skins of bi-directional epoxy-reinforced polyparabenzamide fabric, which is a thermal and electrical insulator, adhered to the core to form the opposite flat surfaces of the panel. Devices, such as solar cells, in an array are joined directly to the exposed surface of one face skin, while a set of epoxy-reinforced carbon fiber stiffener elements are joined to the exposed surface of the other face skin. The composite structure provides a lightweight, stiff structure. The face skins and the stiffener elements lack have a coefficient of thermal expansion that closely matches that of the solar cells in a given direction parallel to the face skin.
