A catalyst component, adapted for use in the (co)polymerization of the ethylene, is formed by the reaction of an organomagnesium compound with a metal oxide support to form a supported organomagnesium composition, reacting the supported organomagnesium composition with a tetraalkyl silicate, contacting of the resulting product with a chlorinating reagent, and treating this product with liquid titanium halide.
