A supported catalyst composition and process for preparing high molecular weight polymers of one or more addition polymerizable monomers, especially propylene, said composition comprising: 1) a substrate comprising the reaction product of a solid, particulated, high surface area, metal oxide, metalloid oxide, or a mixture thereof and an organoaluminum compound, 2) a Group 4 metal complex of a polyvalent, Lewis base ligand; and optionally, 3) an activating cocatalyst for the metal complex.

La présente invention concerne une composition de catalyseur sur support et un procédé de préparation de polymères à poids moléculaire élevé formés d'au moins un monomère polymérisable par addition, plus spécifiquement le propylène, ladite composition renfermant: 1) un substrat comprenant le produit de réaction d'un oxyde métallique ou d'un oxyde métalloïde solide, particulaire à surface efficace étendue, ou d'un mélange de ces derniers, et d'un composé d'organo-aluminium, 2) un complexe métallique du groupe 4 d'un ligand polyvalent de base Lewis; et facultativement 3) un cocatalyseur d'activation pour le complexe métallique.
