ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A supporting beam for a paper machine foil is a horizontal box-type beam. The height of the beam is H?1.3 to 2.5 x L, where L = width of the beam. The side walls of the beam are substantially perpendicular to the run of that wire against which the foil list supported by the beam rubs. With a view to reducing the vibrations of the supporting beam, there are disposed, in a first upper quadrant and a second lower quandrant, additional stiffeners running parallel to the beam. The purpose of these additional stiffeners is to incline the principal axes of inertia of the beam forwards by a small angle with reference to the direction of travel of the wire. The stiffener are located on the inside walls of the vertical sides of the beam and extend substantially over the entire length of the beam. The stiffener in the beam's first upper quadrant is situated close to the top of the beam and the stiffener in the lower quadrant is situated close to the bottom of the beam.
