A treatment of hyperparathyroidism with use of a vitamin D3 derivatiave of formula (I): (see formula I) wherein R1, R2 and R3, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group; and R4.is hydrogen or a C4-6 alkyl group that is optionally substituted by a hydroxy group is disclosed. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a vitamin D3 derivative of formula (I) is useful for treatment of hyperparathyroidism, particularly secondary hyperparathyroidism.
