Abstract of the disclosure: Compounds of the formula A [(X - O) x - Y]m in which A denotes the radical of an oxaryl-modified fatty substance, X and Y denote lower alkylene, Z denotes identical or different radicals of the formulae -OH, -O-CO-CH2-CH(S03M)-COOM, -SO3M, -O-CO-CH=CH-COOM, -O-SO3M, -NR-CH2-CH2-SO3M, -NR-(CH2)y-COOM or -O-(CH2)y-COOM in which M is a cation, R is hydrogen or methyl, y is 1 or 2, x is a number from 1 to 150 and m is an integer from 1 to 7 are suitable as interfacially active agents, in particular as dispersing agents, wetting agents, emulsifiers and dyeing auxiliaries.
