A surface cleaning apparatus includes a body (1) with a front face (201) having at least one recess (205) intermediate the ends thereof, the recess (205) being open at a lower edge thereof, such that, in use, the distance between the lower edge (203) of the front face and a plane of a surface to be cleaned is nonuniform, and the recess allows passage of debris too large to pass beneath the remainder of the lower edge (203) of the front face (201).
