A surface fastener is dislosed for use in fastening a relatively rigid plate- like article (2) to a mounting base (3). The fastener is provided with a first flat base (1) which has surface fastener elements (11) on one face thereof, and a centrally disposed protrusion (13) projecting from the opposite face of the first flat base (1). The protrusion 13) reinforces the centre of the flat base (1) andis adapted to pass through an opening (31) in the respective mounting base (3). It carries the male member (12) of a snap-on hook mechanism for securement of the first flat base (1) to the mounting base (3) . The surface from which the protrustion (13) projects is provided, at opposed sides from the protrusion (13) and near the extremes of the flat base (1), with ribs (15) projecting therefrom in the same direction as the protrusion (13). Thus, by strategically determining the length of the snap-on male mechanism (12), a deformation of the first flat base (1) can be achieved to correspond to the curvature of the mating surface fastener (2) on a second relatively rigid plate (20) to secure a thorough interenagagement between the surface fastener elements (11, 21) secured to the first and second flat bases (1, 2).
