A surface protector for use with C hooks (4) and other material han- dling equipment having a plastic pro- tective layer (28) removably attached to an adhering layer (20) fixed to the equipment. A connecting layer (26) made from a sheet of material hav- ing loops extending from one side is attached to the protective layer and releasably connects to hooks cover- ing the adhering layer. The protective layer may be repeatedly replaced when worn.
