A metallic sheet for motor vehicles which has excellent suitability for press forming and chemical treatments; and a process for producing the sheet. The surface-treating agent consists mainly of (A) a phosphate of one or more di- or trivalent metals selected among zinc, iron, manganese, nickel, cobalt, calcium, magnesium, and aluminum, the average particle diameter of the phosphate being 3 µm or smaller, (B) a dispersant for the ingredient (A), and water. It is applied to a surface of a metallic sheet and then dried. Examples of the dispersant (B) include orthophosphoric acid, polyphosphoric acids, and organic phosphonic acid compounds. Also usable are polymers formed from a monomer represented by the following formula (1). Furthermore, monosaccharides, polysaccharides, and polymers or derivatives of vinyl acetate are usable. It is preferred to apply the surface-treating agent to the surface of a metallic sheet so as to form a film in an amount of 0.05 to 3 g/m2 on a dry basis.

L'invention concerne une feuille métallique pour véhicules à moteur présentant une très bonne aptitude au formage à la presse et aux traitements chimiques; ainsi que le procédé de fabrication de cette feuille. L'agent de traitement de surface contient principalement: (A) un phosphate d'un ou de plusieurs métaux di/trivalents sélectionnés parmi le zinc, le fer, le manganèse, le nickel, le cobalt, le calcium, le magnésium et l'aluminium, le diamètre moyen des particules du phosphate étant de 3 µm ou moins; (B) un dispersant pour l'ingrédient (A); et de l'eau. Cet agent de traitement est appliqué sur la surface d'une feuille métallique, puis séché. Parmi ces dispersants, on peut citer les acides polyphosphoriques, et les composés d'acides phosphoriques organiques. On peut également utiliser des polymères obtenus à partir d'un monomère représenté par la formule (1). De plus, on peut utiliser des monosaccharides, des polysaccharides, et des polymères ou des dérivés d'acétate de vinyle. De préférence, on applique l'agent de traitement de surface sur la surface de la feuille métallique pour former un film, dans des proportions comprises entre 0,05 et 3g/m?2¿ sur une base sèche.
