ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Surface treating agents for metal work containing at least one benzimidazole compound represented by the following formula (I): Image (I) in which R1 independently represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, m is an integer of 0 to 2, and R2 independently represents a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group of 1 to 17 carbon atoms or an aryl group of the formula: Image wherein R3 independently represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and n is an integer of 0 to 3. These surface treating agents are particularly useful as a preflux in the production of printed circuit boards.
