A surface treating appliance (200), such as a vacuum cleaner, comprises a main body (210), a surface treating head (230) and a support assembly (220). The support assembly is rollably mounted to the main body (210) for allowing the main body (210) to be rolled along a surface. The support assembly comprises a substantially continuous rolling support surface that extends in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the main body. The support surface is also symmetrical about the longitudinal axis. The arrangement of the support surface and support assembly assists manoeuvrability of the appliance. The support assembly (220) may house a component of the appliance, such as a motor, and may accommodate a fluid inlet (531) for receiving fluid flow and a fluid outlet (535) for exhausting fluid.
