ABSTRACT Disclosed is a surge arrester assembly for protecting a plurality of telephone or teleprinter lines. Each line is connected to an individual arrester and a common arrester is connected in series to the individual arresters and to a reference potential. The common arrester has a capacitor connected in parallel with it. The arresters are all arranged in a cup designed as a con- nector. A metallic plate serves in the interior of the metallic cup as the com- mon electrode connection for all the arresters. m e metallic plate and the metallic cup form the capacitor. The arresters short-circuit in the event of overload.
