ABSTRACT Disclosed is a surge-arrester with a parallel air-spark-gap fitted directly to it. The air-spark-gap is located in an opening in an annular in- sulating disc bearing upon the edge of an external electrode of the surge- arrester, between the edge and a protuberance on an annular contact cup projuecting axially into the opening. The insulating section amounts to four times the length of the air-spark-gap. The arrangement is small and yet reliable.
