An interference screw suitable for surgical use is provided. The interference screw is con- structed from bone and includes an elongated body having an outer threaded surface, a tapered inser- tion end and a central throughbore. Insertion tool engaging structure is formed along the walls defin- ing the throughbore. The insertion tool engaging structure extends from the proximal end of the elongated body over a substantial portion of the length of the elongated body. The insertion tool engaging structure functions to distribute the forces required to insert the interference screw through- out the body of the interference screw to prevent fracturing of the interference screw during inser- tion into bone.

L'invention concerne une vis d'ancrage destinée à une utilisation chirurgicale. Cette vis est obtenue à partir de matière osseuse et comprend un corps allongé doté d'une surface extérieure filetée, une extrémité d'insertion conique et un alésage central traversant. La structure de préhension de l'instrument d'insertion est formée le long des parois définissant l'alésage. Cette structure de préhension de l'instrument d'insertion s'étend depuis l'extrémité proximale du corps allongé sur une partie importante de la longueur dudit corps. La structure de préhension de l'instrument d'insertion permet de répartir les forces nécessaires à l'insertion de l'intégralité du corps de la vis d'ancrage afin d'éviter sa fracture lors de son insertion dans l'os.
