A surgical needle includes an elongated needle body defining a longitudinal y- axis along which the needle body extends and transverse x and z-axes. The needle body includes a central shaft portion, a first suture end portion for attachment to a suture and a second needled end portion (18) for penetrating tissue. The needled end portion has three sides which intersect to define three cutting edges (30, 32) and terminate at a needle point (36). At least one side includes a pair of planar surface portions arranged in oblique relation to define a general concave appearance to the one side. The needled end portion further defines an enlarged transition portion adjacent the central shaft portion with at least an x-dimension greater than a corresponding x-dimension of the central shaft portion.

L'invention concerne une aiguille chirurgicale comprenant un corps allongé définissant un axe y longitudinal, le long duquel le corps s'étend et traverse des axes x et z. Le corps de l'aiguille comprend une partie centrale de manchon, une première partie terminale de suture destinée à être fixée sur une suture et une seconde partie terminale d'aiguille destinée à pénétrer dans le tissu et comprenant trois côtés formant une intersection permettant de définir trois bords de coupe et finissant en un point d'aiguille. Au moins un côté comprend deux parties de surface plane disposées en relation oblique, de manière à définir une apparence de forme générale concave sur ledit côté. La partie terminale de l'aiguille définit également une partie de transition élargie qui est adjacente à la partie centrale de manchon, au moins une dimension x étant supérieure à une dimension x correspondante de la partie centrale de manchon.
