ABSTRACT Surgical compression plate system A system for stabilizing a bone fracture or an osteotomy in compression osteosynthesis comprises a com- pression plate having at least one elongate screw hole therein and at least one screw. The opposed longitudinal walls of the slot are shaped to provide camming surfaces for a head of a screw so that as the screw is screwed into a bone it travels relative to the compression plate within the hole along a predetermined travel path having an initial section of constant slope and a final section of preferably constant slope which is steeper than that of the initial section.
