Abstract the Disclosure In a surgical dressing comprising a liquid pervious top sheet, and an absorbent pad having one side adjacent said top sheet, the improvement which comprises a porous fibrous backing sheet consisting of fibrous material treated with fluorocarbon textile finish water repellent agent and free from extraneous materials, said backing sheet being adjacent the other side of said pad, said dressing being pervious to air and other gases but substantially repellent to aqueous liquids and retarding passage of bacteria.
