The invention provides a surgical instrument for inserting an elongate element into a human patient. In the preferred form of the invention the instrument has a curved hollow shaft defining an arc corresponding to the general cur-vature of a passage between the anterior vaginal wall and the abdomen of a female patient and having a cutting tip at one end and a handle at the other end. An elongate threading element is used draw a filamentary element through the shaft. Once the filamentary element is in position the shaft is removed from the patient, leaving the element in position. The instrument is preferably used to insert a U-shaped loop of filamentary mate-rial into the patient which passes around the patient's urethra and helps the patient improve her urinary control.
L'invention concerne un instrument chirurgical destiné à insérer un élément allongé chez un patient. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré de l'invention, l'instrument comprend une tige creuse définissant un arc correspondant à la courbure générale d'un passage entre la paroi vaginale antérieure et l'abdomen d'une patiente, et comprenant une tête tranchante à une extrémité et un manche à l'autre extrémité. Un élément de mise en place allongé est utilisé pour entraîner un élément filiforme dans la tige. Lorsque l'élément filiforme est en position, la tige est retirée de la patiente, laissant l'élément en position. L'instrument est utilisé, de préférence, pour insérer chez la patiente une boucle en forme de U faite d'une matière filiforme, passant autour de l'urètre de la patiente et permettant à celle-ci de mieux contrôler son incontinence urinaire.
