This invention is an instrument for manipulating anatomical tissue, and a method of using the instrument. A barrel (32) has two drivers (40, 40') therein which can be manipulated from a proximal end of the barrel (32). The end effectors (50A, 50B, 50A', 50B') of each driver (40, 40') are offset from a shaft (44, 44') by a transverse arm (51A, 51B, 51A', 51B'). In an insertion position, the end effectors (50A, 50B, 50A', 50B') are confined within the diametrical dimension of the barrel (32) at a distal end thereof. After insertion, the end effectors (50A, 50B, 50A', 50B') can be manipulated by rotationally or arcuately moving the shafts (44, 44') to extend beyond the diametrical dimension of the barrel (32) to provide a large working span in which a tissue procedure can be accomplished.

L'invention concerne un instrument destiné à manipuler un tissu anatomique et un procédé d'utilisation de cet instrument. Un cylindre (32) comporte deux supports (40, 40') qui peuvent être manipulés à partir d'une extrémité proximale du cylindre (32). L'effecteur terminal (50A, 50B, 50A', 50B') de chaque support (40, 40') est décalé par rapport à un axe (44, 44') par un bras transversal (51A, 51B, 51A', 51B'). Dans une position d'insertion, les effecteurs terminaux (50A, 50B, 50A', 50B') sont confinés dans l'espace délimité par le pourtour du cylindre (32) à une extrémité distale de celui-ci. Après l'insertion, on peut manipuler les effecteurs terminaux (50A, 50B, 50A', 50B') en déplaçant de manière rotative ou arquée les axes (44, 44') pour les prolonger au-delà de l'espace délimité par le pourtour du cylindre (32) pour assurer une vaste zone de travail dans laquelle on peut effectuer une intervention tissulaire.
