ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An exceptionally tough, fracture-resistant surgical needle is fabricated from an essentially non-ferrous alloy containing nickel and cobalt representing, in combination, at least half but less than the entire weight amount of metal in the alloy, the balance of the alloy being made up of chromium and at least one metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, tungsten and niobium. The superior physical and mechanical properties of the alloy make possible the construction of a needle of significantly less diameter than that of a stainless steel needle of equivalent strength and toughness.
