A surgical staple (40) comprises a base portion (40A) and a respective leg (40B) extending from each end of the base portion and terminating at a free end (40D), the base portion being deformable to bring the free ends of the legs together to penetrate a liquid-carrying vessel at the site of a puncture and hold the opposite edges of the puncture together. The base portion and legs lie in substantially a commmon plane except for a centre portion (40C) of the base portion which is deformed in a loop in a direction perpendicular to the common plane. The centre portion of the staple allows the staple to straddle a blood locator tube projecting from the end of a stapler, so that the staple can be closed at the centre of a puncture wound in which the tube is located.

Cette agrafe chirurgicale (40) comporte une partie base (40A) et des bras (40B) partant de chaque extrémité de cette base et se terminant par une extrémité libre (40D), la base étant susceptible de se déformer afin de réunir les extrémités libres des bras et ce, afin de pénétrer dans un vaisseau de transport de liquide à l'endroit d'une perforation et de maintenir en place les bords opposés de la perforation. La base et les bras sont quasiment sur un même plan à l'exception de la partie centrale (40C) de la base qui est déformée pour former une boucle dans une direction sensiblement perpendiculaire au plan commun. Cette partie centrale permet à l'agrafe de chevaucher un tube de positionnement sanguin faisant saillie depuis l'extrémité d'une agrafeuse, de sorte que cette agrafe peut se fermer au centre de la blessure par perforation dans laquelle est placé le tube.
