A surgical stretcher (30) includes a frame (32) and a patient-support deck (34) coupled to the frame. A head rest (48) is coupled to the patient-support deck (34). The head rest (48) includes a pair of longitudinally extending spaced-apart socket tubes (534) and a bottom plate (412) extending transversely between the socket tubes (534). A side plate (644) angles upwardly from each of the socket tubes (534) so that a head cushion-receiving space (646) is defined between the side plates (644). Each of the socket tubes (534) has an interior region (538) and each socket tube (534) is open so that portions (544) of a wrist rest assembly (542) can be inserted into the interior region (538) of each socket tube (534).
