The mechanism is applicable to a surgical tool which has a jaw (57) pivotably mounted to a distal end of a longitudinally extending support (58). The jaw is operated by action on a rearwardly facing cam follower (52, 53) by a lobe (51) on the distal end of an actuating tube (50). Rotation of the actuating tube (50) causes pivoting of the jaw (57) into and out of operative relationship with another jaw member (21) of the tool. The mechanism may be applied to any manipulative or gripping type of surgical implement, but is particularly applicable to ultrasonic tools adapted for cutting and/or coagulating.

L'invention concerne un mécanisme pouvant être appliqué à un outil chirurgical présentant une mâchoire (57) montée pivotante sur une extrémité distale d'un support s'étendant longitudinalement (58). La mâchoire est actionnée, sur un suiveur de came dirigé vers l'arrière (52, 53), au moyen d'un lobe (51) situé sur l'extrémité distale d'un tube actionneur (50). Une rotation de celui-ci (50) entraîne le pivotement de la mâchoire (57) permettant d'amener celle-ci avec un autre élément de mâchoire (21) de l'outil ou de l'éloigner de celui-ci. Le mécanisme peut être appliqué à un type de manipulation ou de préhension quelconque d'implant chirurgical, mais est spécialement appliqué à des outils ultrasonores conçus pour couper et/ou coaguler.
