ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A portable surgical wire inserting instrument has a housing including a handle and a drive casing and a cassette removably mounted in the handle. The casing includes a motor, an electrical power source and a switch controlling energiza- tion of the motor by the power source. A wire holding tube in the drive casing is connected by gears to the motor and an external trigger is provided on the housing for actuating the switch to energize the motor and thereby rotate the wire hold- ing tube.
