A wound closure system and methods utilizes a patient's own blood. The system preferably includes a chamber with a needle and a plunger for transferring and storing blood prior to surgery and the use of reversible anticoagulants. The chamber is pre-loaded with a reversible anticoagulant to prevent the blood from clotting during storage. When the surgery is complete, a counteracting agent is mixed with the withdrawn blood to counteract the reversible anticoagulant and allow the blood to clot. The clottable blood is then reintrduced into the patient to close a wound.

Cette invention se rapporte à un système et à des procédés pour suturer des plaies, qui utilisent le propre sang du patient. Ledit système comprend de préférence une chambre pourvue d'une aiguille et d'un piston servant à transférer et à conserver le sang avant l'acte chirurgical, ce système ayant en outre recours à des anticoagulants réversibles. Ladite chambre est préalablement remplie d'un anticoagulant réversible, pour empêcher le sang de coaguler pendant la conservation. Lorsque l'acte chirurgical est terminé, un agent à action contraire est mélangé au sang prélevé, pour contrer l'action de l'anticoagulant réversible et permettre au sang de coaguler. Le sang coagulé est ensuite réintroduit dans le corps du patient, pour suturer la plaie.
