A surveillance apparatus for monitoring work performed in a confined space is disclosed. The surveillance apparatus includes: a housing; a magnetically attachable mounting assembly attachable to the housing to mount the housing to a magnetically permeable structure; and a video camera. In addition, an electrical cable coupled to the video camera extends outwardly from the housing to a monitoring station; an electrical connection between the video camera and the electrical cable is housed within the housing; and the video camera is adapted to view the work being performed within the confined space and monitored at the monitoring station.
