ABSTRACT Stable suspensions of solid particles other than seeds are formed by dispersing the particles in a pseudoplastic aqueous medium con- taining in solution xanthan gum and at least one galactomannan, exemplified by guar gum, in proportions providing an unexpectedly high ratio of yield point to plastic viscosity. Such suspensions are useful in a variety of applications such as colour pigment and filler suspensions in the paper and paint industry, drilling muds and fracturing fluids in the oil industry, slurries in the mining industry and many others.
