SUSPENSIONS OF SHEET SILICATE MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS MADE THEREFROM Abstract An aqueous suspension of sheet silicate and the method of making the same are disclosed. The suspension is produced by treating crystals of 2:1 layer sheet silicates with a solution containing a water soluble salt of a cation of a secondary, tertiary or quaternary alkyl ammonium compound and thereafter dispersing the vermiculite crystals.
