Exothermic reactions are used in self heating products, such as food, beverages, and cloth-ing. Temperature peaks are important as heat can cause user injuries or increase pressures within the heating container to unsafe levels. Disclosed is a composition that modulates chemical reactions by control of the reaction initiation. Solid exothermic re-actants, like calcium oxide and zeolite, are wetted with a combination of water and at least one surfac-tant, such as polyethylene glycol. The use of surfac-tants limits the initial rate of wetting, and also pro-vides modulation of the reaction by changing phase. Optional addition of weak acids or acid salts modulat-ed temperature and pH.
Des réactions exothermiques sont utilisées dans des produits autochauffants tels que des aliments, des boissons ou des vêtements. Les températures extrêmes y sont importantes, et la chaleur générée peut blesser l'utilisateur ou faire grimper la pression à l'intérieur du récipient à un niveau dangereux. La présente invention concerne une composition qui module ces réactions en contrôlant leur initiation. Des réactifs exothermiques solides comme l'oxyde de calcium ou la zéolithe sont mouillés avec une combinaison d'eau et d'au moins un tensioactif tel que le polyéthylène glycol. L'utilisation d'un tensioactif limite le mouillage initial et permet également de moduler la réaction en changeant la phase. L'addition facultative d'acides faibles ou de sels d'acides faibles permet de moduler la température et le pH.
