ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Suture material for end-to-end suturing of hollow organs on a mandrel comprising a plurality of staples, characterized in that each staple is formed as a strip bent relative to the lateral axis thereof at an angle of approximately 90° and comprises two arms, of which the long one extends from the line of curvature to one free end while the short one extends from the same line of curvature to the other free end, and a C-shaped cylindrical cross bar on the free end of each of said arms, the generator of said C-shaped cylindrical cross bar being parallel to the longi- tudinal axis of that arm while the directing curve for it is part of a circumference with a diameter approximately equal to the outer diameter of the hollow organ to be sutured, and the center of the directing curve for the cylindrical cross bar of said long arm is disposed on the same side of the plane of said long arm as that where said short arm is disposed, whereas the center of the directing curve for the cylindrical cross bar of said short arm is disposed, relative to the plane of said short arm, on the side opposite that where said long arm is disposed, and said long arm is longer than said short arm by a value approximately equal to twice the wall thickness of the hollow organ being sutured, said long arm being provided with at least one lug designed for securing said staple by puncturing the walls of the hollow organ being sutured to be bent beyond the line of the suture formed between the C-shaped cylindrical cross bars, thereby adding to the strength of the sutured portion of the hollow organ, whereas the short arm has an expanding portion designed to provide for secure fixation of said staple in said mandrel. A mandrel corresponding to said suture material and a surgical instrument for suturing blood vessels incorporating said mandrel are also proposed. The present invention is instrumental in providing sutures of hollow organs free from trauma at the suture site.
