A swath roller has a drum with two frusto-conical end sections. In the described embodiment there is also a cylindrical centre section. The drum is mounted on a frame for rolling movement over a swath of crop. The drum is equipped with a set of ribs on its external surface to engage the crop and ensure that the drum rotates as it is drawn over a swath and neither slides on the swath nor pushes the swath ahead of the drum. The drum is moulded from synthetic plastic material in two identical sections arranged end to end and coupled by mating formations on the end faces at the centre of the drum.
