ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Sweetening preparations containing 2,4,6-trihalogena- ted benzamides substituted in the 3-position of the general formula I Image (I) (in which Hal represents C1, Br or I and Z represents -COOH or Image P, K, L, M, N, X and Y having the meanings given herein) and salts thereof with inorganic bases, new such benzamides suitable there- for and processes for the manufacture of the new benzamides. The compounds of the general formula I and their salts have an extraordinarily high degree of sweetening power and are outstandingly suitable for use as substitutes for natural sweet- ening agents.
