ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A thermally insulating protective cover for bodies of liquid preferably for bodies of water and particularly swimming pools consisting of a closed-cell foamed elastic, plastic sheet buoyant in the liquid with a liquid permeable upper lining and a liquid impermeable lower lining to the sheet. The sheet may be of foamed polyethylene, the upper lining of a fabric consisting of bands of polyethylene with the lower lining being of foil of polyethylene. Drain holes extending through the structure allow the removal of liquid from the upper surface and embossing of the lower lining improves the mechanical handling properties.
