A swimming pool installation comprises a swimming pool and a deck substantially surrounding the swimming pool and immediately adjacent thereto. A deck-accessible hand-rail portion is securely mounted on the swimming pool deck. A pool-accessible ladder portion is securely connected in weight bearing relation to one of the swimming pool deck and the deck-accessible hand-rail portion so as to be positioned adjacent the deck-accessible hand-rail portion and in at least partially submerged relation in the pool. A selectably retractable swimming pool cover is operatively mounted by substantially parallel first and second tracks disposed on the deck, one track along each side of the swimming pool, with first and second pool cover passages disposed over the first and second tracks such that the swimming pool cover is retractably slidably situateable over the swimming pool by movement along the first and second tracks through the first and second pool cover passages.
