SWITCH FOR OPTICAL TRANSMISSION LINES Abstract of the Disclosure An optical switch is disclosed for use in changing over the mode of connection between two optical transmission lines, i.e. between a mode in which two optical fibers are connected directly to each other and a mode in which an optical communication device is connected between the two transmission lines. In order to reduce the insertion loss in this switch, first, second, third and fourth optical fibers, each having an optical connector attached to one end, are attached to a substrate so that at least parts of the respective optical fibers are fixed to the substrate. The ends of the first and second fibers are arranged on the substrate movably, so that the end of the first fiber confronts the ends of the second and third fibers, and the end of the second fiber confronts the ends of the first and fourth fibers.
