A symbolic language teaching and commu- nication system is disclosed which includes at least one block (10) having a pattern of raised protrusions (16) with rounded top surfaces for tactile discrim- ination. Each pattern represents an alphanumeric character for recognition by a visually impaired in- dividual. The block has indicia (18) on one of the sides (15) corresponding to the alphanumeric char- acter for recognition by a nonvisually impaired in- dividual. Each block also has a curved region (17) to provide for the proper orientation of the block on a block retaining slate when forming words or sentences. The block retaining slate (40) also has a rounded corner (52) to provide for the proper ori- entation of the block retaining slate when forming or reading words or sentences. The block retain- ing slate has a triangular portion (62) between the engaging members to provide for proper alignment and spacing of the blocks on the retaining slate.
L'invention concerne un système d'enseignement d'un langage symbolique et de communication comportant au moins un bloc présentant un motif de protubérances (16) dont la surface supérieure est arrrondie de manière à permettre la discrimination tactile. Chaque motif représente un caractère alphanumérique pouvant être reconnu par une personne malvoyante. Ledit bloc présente une marque (18) sur un des côtés (15) correspondant au caractère alphanumérique reconnaissable par un malvoyant. Chaque bloc présente également une région courbée (17) permettant une orientation correcte de celui-ci sur une tablette de retenue de blocs lors de la formation des mots ou des phrases. Ladite tablette de blocs (40) présente également un coin arrondi permettant la bonne orientation de celle-ci lors de la formation de mots ou de phrases. Ladite tablette est également dotée d'une partie triangulaire (62) située entre les éléments s'adaptant les uns dans les autres de manière à permettre l'alignement et l'espacement adéquats des blocs sur la tablette de retenue.
